Assessing Vocational Competence

This qualification is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment). Including beauty tutors, first aid trainers, health & safety trainers, catering lecturers or anyone delivering BTEC and NVQ qualifications.

Course outline
The structure of the course includes an induction workshop where you will learn about the theory and under-pinning knowledge of working as an assessor. The induction is also for the purpose of letting you know how the course will be assessed and an opportunity for you to ask questions. We are based in South Wales but can arrange courses at your premises (subject to numbers).
We usually give trainee-assessors up to six weeks to complete the unit questions that come with unit one. Once you have completed the theory and are ready for the practical part of the course, you will prepare, plan and conduct assessments with your two candidates. Your allocated assessor will support you during your assessor journey with your own two candidates.

Course content 

In order to gain the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement you will need to complete a portfolio of evidence addressing the following mandatory units:

  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment
  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
  • There must be evidence of you carrying out at least two assessments of two learners’ skills, knowledge and understanding (four assessments in total).
Entry requirement:
You must have access to 2 learners completing vocational qualifications ( we can assist depending on your subject)
